Upcoming Classes and Workshops
for Beginners and Meditators of All Ages & Experience Levels

The Mindfulness Center will host a series of all-day workshop for anyone interested in learning or enhancing their practice of mindfulness techniques.  Each workshop has a slightly different theme and in addition to the theme, we will also discuss the role of stress in health and learn about being mindful in everyday life.  We’ll practice several forms of meditation, gentle stretching, and relaxation techniques. 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course begins Sept. 27, 2008 and will meet Monday afternoons, Monday evenings, or Saturday mornings

hummingbirdPeople of all ages are invited to begin a journey of self-discovery, self-development, and healing by participating in a unique stress reduction program developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. This program trains individuals in the discipline of mindfulness and its applications to daily life.  Offered for over 25 years at major medical centers around the world, thousands of people have taken the course and research studies have documented positive health outcomes resulting from participation in the program.  Over 450 Arkansans have completed the training with the Mindfulness Center.

Participants will learn mindfulness practices, including body relaxation, many types of meditation, and gentle stretching yoga.

Dates and Times - Choose from 3 course times:

  • Mondays from 2-4:30 PM beginning Sept 29 - Nov 17, 2008
  • Mondays from 6-8:30 PM beginning Sept 29 - Nov 17, 2008
  • Saturdays from 9-11:30 AM beginning Sept 27 - Nov 22, 2008

The all-day session for all three courses will be held on:

  • Saturday, Nov 8, 2008 from 9AM – 3:30 PM.

Course Location: All classes and the all-day retreat will be held at Barefoot Studio, 3515 Cantrell Road, LR (www.barefootstudio.com).

Program Cost: $375.00 for 26 hours of class plus supplies ($350.00 if paid in full by Sept 7; Partial scholarships available for anyone needing financial assistance.) Course payment includes:

  • A 1-hour orientation session
  • Eight 2.5 hour weekly sessions
  • One all-day session
  • Refreshments at each session
  • Detailed workbook
  • 2 CD Set of guided instruction in body scan, yoga, and meditation

Commitment: Each participant commits to doing their best to attend each of the 8 weekly classes and the all-day retreat, and to doing the homework during the course. The homework consists of practicing the mindfulness techniques that are being learned in class, using a guided CD, for about 30 minutes per day.

Continuing education credits are available for many health care professionals.

Discounts: As partners with the Barefoot Studio and the Little Rock Athletic Club, we are now offering their full-time members a 10% discount in course fees. Also, graduates of the MBSR courses may take the course again at a 50% discount.

Private Mindfulness Sessions

Private Mindfulness Training allows for mindfulness study and practice that can be tailored to meet the individual’s time, interests, and goals.  Facilitated by Dr. Sandra Pope, private sessions are held in Dr. Pope’s office at 1202 S. Main Street in Little Rock and cost $60/hour for individuals and $90/hour for couples. Weekly meditation session at Barefoot Studio Wednesdays 5:30-6PM

A weekly meditation is held every Wednesday from 5:30 – 6 PM. These sessions are free of charge and are offered collaboratively between The Mindfulness Center for Healthy Living and Barefoot Studio. The meditation is led by one of the Mindfulness Center instructors and held at Barefoot Studio, 3515 Cantrell Road, Little Rock (right behind Loca Luna Restaurant). There is a brief instruction at the beginning of each session with gentle guidance during the meditation. Anyone with an interest in meditation is invited. Donations are appreciated and go toward course scholarships.
